The 2013 Rimac Concept One
The World's Fastest Accelerating Electric Vehicle
In 2009 a Croatian named Mate Rimac created his company in Zagreb, Croatia with the goal of making an electric supercar. After patenting 24 innovations and racing a customized electric BMW E30 called "Green Monster", Rimac decided to make his own electric supercar. The car would be called the Concept One.
The Concept One is a unique car in that it can be switched between front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive through the use of a single liquid-cooled permanent magnet electric motor for each wheel. This is all controlled by something called an "All Wheel Torque Vectoring System" that distributes the power to the wheels in accordance with the driver's setup and driving conditions.
The Concept One uses motors powered by a 91 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery that gives the car a range of 310 miles per plug in. The battery gives the car 1,088 horsepower and 1,200 lbf-ft. of torque. Top speed is limited to 189 mph and will get to sixty in 2.8 seconds.
The Concept One's body is made of carbon fiber while the interior has custom leatherwork and hand-made dashboard components. The car weighs 1,950 kg. The suspension uses front and rear double wishbones that are fully adjustable and pushrod activated. The wishbones are made of aluminum.
Let's talk price now. The Concept One is expected to enter production in 2014 and will cost $980,000. However it would seem that the price is worth it but I'm not completely sure.
