The 2012 Peugeot Onyx
Peugeot's Hybrid Supercar Concept
The 2012 Peugeot Onyx is a hybrid supercar armed with an inline-4 3.7-liter FAP HDi V8 engine with hybrid technology that is mounted in the central rear position and is rear-wheel drive. The V8 combined with the Hybrid-4 sysstem delivers 680 horsepower at 1,061 lb-ft of peak torque. Top speed of the Onyx is unknown but is said to go over 100 mph. Naught to sixty takes an estimated 2.2 seconds.
The Onyx uses double-wishbone suspension and inboard springs and a damper system on all four corners. The brakes are carbon discs that not only keep the unstrung weight lower which helps the Onyx's handling but reduces brake fading from excessive heat. The Onyx's superb braking is enhanced by a rear wing that acts as an air brake under hard braking conditions.
The Onyx's body rests on top of a Monolithic carbon frame. The Monolithic carbon frame is made up of 12 sections that tie the rear and front end together which adds torsional rigidity to the entire chassis and increases handling characteristics. The frame 220.5 lbs. The Onyx uses a 6-speed sequential gearbox. The doors and wings are made of polished but unprotected copper. The remainder of the body panels are made from carbon fiber. The roof is made from a material called Ply Methyl Methacrylate. Basically it's Plexiglass. The Onyx weighs a total of 2,425 pounds which is light. Total price of the Onyx is $1,000,000. The Onyx uses conventional doors.
