The 2013 Porsche 918 Spyder

Germany's Greatest Hypercar Ever

This blog page is made to show my appreciation to my German viewers. Since you took the time to view my blog I've decided to write about your country's greatest hypercar ever. Danke.
The Porsche 918 Spyder is a mid-engine all-wheel drive hybrid hypercar created by Michael Mauer and tested on British Top Gear by Richard (Hamster) Hammond. It uses a 4.6 liter V8 plus two electric motors on the front and rear axles. The engine delivers an impressive 608 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and 389 lb-ft of maximum torque. This is supplemented by two electric motors that deliver 279 extra horsepower. One 154 horsepower electric motor drives the rear wheels in parallel with the engine and serves as the main generator. This motor and engine give poweeeeeeerrrrrr to the rear axle via a 7-speed gearbox that is coupled to Porsche's PDK double-clutch system. The front electric motor directly drives the front axle; an electric clutch decouples the motor when not in use. This all together delivers 887 hp and 940 lb-ft of torque. Top speed of the 918 is 213 mph and can get to sixty-two in 2.6 seconds.
The 918 uses a carbon-fiber -r    reinforced plastic monocoque. In fact almost everything on the car is made of carbon fiber. The 918 weighs 3,700 pounds. The total range of gasoline and a fully charged battery on the 918 is 420 miles according to EPA tests.   .
Let's hope Richard manages to beat Jeremy in a 918 vs McLaren P1 challenge so we can all see Jeremy change his name legally to Jennifer. LOL!
