The 2012 Pagani Huayra

My Favorite Car In The World

On British Top Gear, Richard (Hamster) Hammond, announced that the Pagani Zonda was his favorite car in the world. Now he has a new favorite car from the same company called the Pagani Huayra. The name Huayra comes from Wayra Tata which means "God of the winds" in Quechua. It has also been called the "King of Hypercars" by British Top Gear.
The Huayra is a mid-engine rear-wheel drive hypercar armed with a 6 liter Mercedes-AMG bi-turbo M158 5980 cc V12 that delivers a whopping 730 metric horsepower and 740 lb-ft of torque. The Huayra has a top speed of 231 mph and can reach sixty in 3.2 seconds. No wonder Hammond said "I'm in a monster!" when he was driving it. Since it's equipped with Pirelli tires the Huayra can withstand 1.66 g of lateral acceleration at speeds of up to 230 mph. The Huayra uses dry sump lubrication. A water/oil heat exchanger reduces engine warm-up times on cold days and maintains a stable temperature for refrigerants and lubricants.
The Huayra uses a 7-speed sequential gearbox and a single disc clutch. This was chosen over a dual-clutch because the extra weight of over 70 kg would've negated the advantage of the faster gear changes in a double-clutch transmission. The single disc clutch weighs 96 kg.
The Huayra is equipped with bespoke Brembo brake calipers, rotors and pads. The rotors are drilled carbon ceramic.
Perhaps the most interesting and unique feature of the Huayra is that it has four independent flaps that act as air brakes or provide downforce.
The Huayra uses a carbotanium monocoque construction. The Huayra also has gullwing doors.
