The 2014 SRT Viper TA (Time Attack)
The Original SRT Viper Made Even Better
Are you an SRT Viper owner and thought that even with all that power you have you still go to slow? Fear not for 2014 SRT has decided to make an even faster orange version of the standard SRT Viper called the TA for Time Attack in order to show the Corvette ZR1 who's boss. But speed isn't the only thing the guys at SRT messed with. But we'll get to that later. For now it's engine and powaaaaahhhhhh time.
The SRT Viper TA is an American supercar equipped with an 8.4 liter naturally aspirated V-10 that delivers 640 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. Top speed is either an impressive 206 or even more impressive 210 mph. In your face Clarkson you American car hater. LOL. Anyway the SRT Viper TA reaches 60 mph in about 3.3 seconds. The engine is likely coupled to the same manual gearbox the original SRT Viper has.
The SRT Viper TA is not very different from the original on the exterior except for it's "Crusher Orange" paint, 2-dimensional TA logos behind the front wheels coupled with a black Stryker emblem on the front fascia, and matte black, ultra-lightweight, Sidewinder II wheels.
As for the interior it's pretty much the same except for options to install 3 or 6-point racing harnesses for the racing belts. The Crusher Orange paint can be found on the interior in the form of accent stitching on the cloth seats, pull brake, shifter boot, shifter head, instrument panel center stack, console, steering wheel, and upper doors.
However the suspension, handling, and all-out performance are anything but the same as the original. The suspension is now a Bilstein Damptronic system that has been given firmer levels of damping and a tinier spread between driving modes. Shock dampers, as well as springs and road-racing inspired stabilizing bars we're given an improvement while the aluminum X-brace was replaced with a carbon fiber brace that ties the four corners of the engine compartment together. The torsional rigidity and stiffness was increased by 50 percent. The SRT Viper TA also uses new Brembo brakes as well as a new system that increases thermal capacity and optimizes heat dissipation.
Now the bad news. Compared to an original SRT Viper, the SRT Viper TA will likely cost $120,000 which getting dangerously close to what you'd pay for a cheap Italian supercar. Worse only 33 of these cars will be made. If you have the money I'd suggest you buy one now unless they've all been sold by the time I wrote this article.
