The 1999 Pagani Zonda C12
my second favorite car in the world
The Pagani Zonda C12 is my second favorite supercar in the world and for good reason. It has the looks, performance, and tire grip to match. The car is named after an air current above Argentina. The car was originally going to be named the Fangio F1 after Juan Manuel Fangio, but when he died in a crash in 1995 Horacio Pagani named it the Zonda C12 instead. Although it looks like a car from the present day the Pagani Zonda C12 actually debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland in 1999.
The Zonda C12 isn't powered by a mighty Italian engine like a Ferrari or Lamborghini would have. Oh no. The Zonda C12 is powered by a mighty German Mercedes-Benz AMG 6 liter V-12 M120 DOHC piston engine that produces 394 horsepower with a maximum torque of 570 Nm at 3,800 rpm that is married to a 5-speed manual gearbox with a stick shift, and a self locking differential. The torque on the more modernized Zonda C12s are kept in check by a traction control system from reliable German company Bosch. Modernized C12s also have ABS which is an abbreviation for anti-brake system. Maximum rpm is at 5,200. Top speed for the C12 is believed to be roughly 190 mph or over 200 depending on if you swap to a more powerful Mercedes AMG V-12 engine.
Let's talk more about speed. The C12 can reach 60 mph in 4.2 seconds which is a little slow in my opinion but I don't care. Zero to 100 mph is reached in 9.2 seconds.
As for suspension the Pagani Zonda C12 uses independent wheels with double-A arms, Helicoidal springs and Ohlins hydraulic dampers, and an anti-roll bar with suspension arms in aluminum alloy.
Now for the car's attractive body. The body is made mostly of carbon fiber to make the car's weight as light as possible. The car also has front and Cr Mo steel space frames.
The brakes are hydraulically powered Italian Brembos. Steering is rack and pinion with power steering.
Now let's talk about the price. Back in the day a Pagani Zonda C12 would cost about $350,000 which is almost Ferrari F50 money. Once more modernized versions like the C12S came out demand rose high and the price jumped to about $550,000. Oh my gosh! However given the Pagani Zonda C12's performance in real life and on Forza Motorsport 4 I would say it's absolutely worth it.
